The Registration instructions

 

WHAT: A hackathon to identify innovative data solutions for improving transparency and social performance in the mining industry.

WHO: Motivated youth, both women and men, aged 18-35 who meet the eligibility criteria listed below, are invited to apply. Applications are particularly encouraged by qualified female candidates.

WHY: Data science is an exciting, rapidly growing sector with true potential for both building successful businesses and solving pressing social issues. The mining sector in Sierra Leone’s the most important source of growth and export earnings. This hackathon is an opportunity to gain first-hand experience at the intersection of these two critical fields, and potentially contribute to shaping their future.

This event takes place at Sensi Tech Innovation Hub, 31B Spur Road, Freetown, from 16th to 18th August 2022. The event lasts 3 days and begins at 8:30 am and finishes at 18:00 pm, daily. The event is free to attend and food will be provided during the 3 days.

Steps to register:

  • Complete and submit this form. (space is limited and we expect a full house so it is important to register immediately to secure your place)
  • Once registered, participants’ registration will be reviewed in the order in which their registration form was received.
  • Please note – registration will close when we reach capacity. If you register and we do not have space for you, we will inform you.
  • Please note registration will closed on Friday 12th Anyone registering after the deadline risk not securing a place for the hackathon.
  • All successful applicants will be informed about their acceptance by Sunday 14th August 2022

Proposed Composition of Participant Cohort

All the participants will be between the ages of 18 and 35. Forty percent (40%) will have a technology background either in programming, application design and development, or data management and analytics. Twenty percent (20%) of participants will have a background in business and entrepreneurship. Twenty percent (20%) of participants will have direct experience with the mining industry or a deep understanding of the needs and challenges of the communities surrounding it. The final twenty percent (20%) will have skills and experience in marketing, communications, and/or public speaking.
